At 16:00 on November 24, 2018, the 472nd Civil and Commercial Law Frontier Forum, the 1st Future Rule of Law Forum and the 12th Antong Forum themed "The right to communication to the public——comments to the recent CJEU case law" were successfully held in Conference Room 725, Mingde Law Building, Renmin University of China. Co-sponsored by the Civil and Commercial Law Research Center and the Renmin Law and Technology Institute of Renmin University of China, this forum was co-organized by Beijing Antong Law Firm.

      Professor Silke von Lewinski, Professor and Senior Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Germany, delivered the keynote report. Professor Zhang Guangliang, Professor Jin Haijun and Associate Professor Zhang Jiyu from the Law School attended the forum and joined the discussion. This forum was presided over by Professor Wan Yong, Professor of the Law School and Director of the Technology Transfer and Investment Research Center of the Renmin Law and Technology Institute, Renmin University of China.

      At the opening of the forum, Moderator Professor Wan Yong introduced Professor von Lewinski to all faculty, distinguished guests and student participants, and extended a warm welcome and gratitude to her.

      Subsequently, Professor von Lewinski delivered an insightful presentation, proceeding from the legal basis of the right of communication to the public under EU law, two recent Court of Justice of the European Union judgments concerning this right, reflections on the liability of online service providers in light of the EU's Digital Single Market (DSM) proposal, and the underlying reasons that have shaped the CJEU's understanding of the concepts of "new public" and "for-profit nature."

      Finally, the discussants engaged in a lively discussion on Professor von Lewinski’s presentation and, with reference to China’s actual context, raised questions and shared their own views with her. Professor von Lewinski briefly responded to the discussants’ comments and also answered questions from the students in attendance. The moderator, Professor Wan Yong, once again expressed his gratitude to Professor von Lewinski and welcomed her to visit the Renmin University of China Law School and the Renmin Law and Technology Institute on a regular basis for academic exchanges and collaboration. The forum came to a successful conclusion amid warm applause from the audience.
