Lecture Review | Current Controversial Copyright Issues in Europe and Overlapping Protection of Intellectual Property Rights and Competition Law in the Field of Component Parts
time:2025-10-23On October 2, 2025, at the invitation of the Renmin University of China Law School, the Renmin Law and Technology Institute, and the Intellectual Property Academy of Renmin University of China, Professor Silke von Lewinski, Senior Research Fellow of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Germany, and Associate Professor Burton Ong from the National University of Singapore, attended the "Frontier Forum on Future Rule of Law and Digital Law" and the "Global Honorary Lecture Series", and delivered insightful keynote speeches centering on "Current Controversial Copyright Issues in Europe" and "Overlapping Protection of Intellectual Property Rights and Competition Law in the Field of Component Parts". During the lecture, Associate Professor Burton Ong elaborated on how Singapore leverages the synergistic effect of two legal instruments—restricting the scope of intellectual property protection and intervening in the market through the application of competition law—to foster competition in the automotive component aftermarket and safeguard consumer rights and interests; Professor Silke von Lewinski probed into prominent legal issues currently debated in Europe, such as generative artificial intelligence (AI) and copyright law.
