The delegation of the Renmin University of China Law School visited Harvard Law School and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University
time:2025-12-13On November 19, 2025, a delegation composed of Professor Ding Xiaodong (Vice Dean), Professor Guo He, Professor Zhang Jiyu, and Assistant Professor Sun Jingzhou from our School visited Harvard University for a one-day academic exchange.
Professor William P. Alford, Professor of Harvard Law School and Director of its East Asian Legal Studies Center, extended a warm welcome to the delegation. Professor Alford led the delegation on a tour of the Harvard campus, offering a comprehensive overview of Harvard University’s historical evolution, academic traditions, and the development of its East Asian studies programs. From the John Harvard Statue to the Widener Library, and from the Harvard Law School buildings to the East Asian Studies Center, Professor Alford vividly illustrated Harvard’s profound heritage in cross-cultural exchanges and cutting-edge research through these landmarks embodying academic memories. Throught the tour, the two sides engaged in relaxed yet lively discussions on the inheritance and innovation of legal education in China and the United States.


That afternoon, the delegation visited Harvard Law School and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, where they engaged in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge topics pertaining to intellectual property law and artificial intelligence. Professor William P. Alford and a number of distinguished scholars from the Berkman Klein Center participated in the exchange, including Professor Larry Lessig, a pioneering scholar in the fields of intellectual property and internet governance in the digital era; Professor Jonathan Zittrain, Co-founder and Director of the Berkman Klein Center; Mark Wu, Co-Director of the Berkman Klein Center and the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies; Alex Pascal, Executive Director of the Berkman Klein Center; and Steven Wang, Lecturer at Harvard Law School.
The discussions focused on the following key topics:
1, Copyright-related Disputes over AI Training Data and AI-generated Content
2, Differences and Practical Applications of the Legal Frameworks for Platform Liability in China and the United States
3, Competition and Coordination among Global Jurisdictions in AI Regulation

This visit by the delegation of Renmin University of China has further clarified the alignment points for academic cooperation between the two sides. Renmin University of China has always been committed to enhancing mutual understanding through academic exchanges and it looks forward to establishing regular cooperation mechanisms with various research centers at Harvard University in such fields as intellectual property law, digital governance, and comparative law studies, so as to jointly contribute wisdom and strength to addressing global challenges. This visit not only upholds the traditional friendship between Chinese and American universities, but also serves as a pragmatic initiative to deepen academic cooperation against the backdrop of evolving global governance.
