Lecture Review | Professor Benjamin L. Liebman from Columbia Law School: Artificial Intelligence and Data Usage in Chinese and U.S. Courts
time:2025-08-01On July 4, 2025, invited by the Renmin University of China (RUC) Law School, the Renmin Law and Technology Institute, and the RUC Institute for Foreign-Related Rule of Law, Professor Benjamin L. Liebman, Vice Dean of Columbia Law School, Director of the Center for Chinese Legal Studies, and Robert L. Lief Professor of Law, attended the RUC Law School Masters of Law Lecture Series. He delivered an excellent lecture on the theme of "Artificial Intelligence and Data Usage in Chinese and U.S. Courts." In his lecture, Professor Liebman began with the issue of "litigation overload" faced by U.S. courts. He explained the U.S. courts' attitude towards the application of artificial intelligence, analyzed common challenges and obstacles in AI application between Chinese and U.S. courts, and explored the utilization of big data by Chinese courts.
