On the afternoon of March 16, 2026, Renmin University of China Law School and Yale Law School jointly held an academic exchange for faculty and students. Faculty and students from both schools engaged in in-depth exchanges on themes including AI regulation, legal education, and Sino-U.S. relations, and had productive discussions on topics including AI governance, data privacy protection, platform regulation, copyright rules, and comparative legal education.

Professor Yang Dong, Dean of Renmin University of China Law School, delivered the opening remarks. Topic 1 was “Differences in AI/Internet Regulation between China and the U.S”. Karman Lucero, Senior Research Fellow at Yale Law School, explored the relationship between AI capacity building and rule-making power, noting that the party mastering core elements of AI will have greater influence in setting usage rules and standards. Professor Zhang Jiyu, Executive Director of the Law and Technology Institute of Renmin University of China and Professor of Renmin University of China Law School, moderated the first session. Speakers included Samantha Kiernan, Yale Law School J.D. candidate (Class of 2026); Tian Yuyang, Ph.D. candidate at Renmin University of China Law School; Trent Kannegieter, Yale Law School J.D. candidate (Class of 2027); and Wu Yaxi, Ph.D. candidate at Renmin University of China Law School.

Topic 2 was “Sino-U.S. Legal Education and Sino-U.S. Relations”. Professor Wang Ying, Deputy Director of the Law and Technology Institute of Renmin University of China and Professor of Renmin University of China Law School, discussed the significance of studying the differences in legal education between China and the U.S. and moderated this session. Jeremy Daum, Senior Research Fellow at Yale Law School, emphasized the importance of cultivating internationalized legal talent with international competence.
