Professor Li Kang Gave a Lecture on Frontier of RUC Law and Technology Institute : the Protection of Privacy in Intelligent Era
time:2018-01-08On January 8th, 2018, upon the invitation of the RUC Law and Technology Institute (also known as the Future Rule of Law Institute), Professor Li Kang, lifetime professor of computer science department in University of Georgia, headmaster of school of safety and privacy, attended the frontier forum held by RUC institution of future rule of law, and gave a lecture which topic was “the protection of privacy in intelligent era and the security responsibility of manufacturers”. Other professors present were associate professor Ding Xiaodong, Associate professor Wang Ying, Associate professor Deng Jinting, Mr. Xu Ke, Manager of legal research center in Chinese Academy of Information and Communications Technology Li Haiying, associate researcher of legal research institution in Chinese Academy of Social Science Zhou Hui, associate researcher in legal research institution of China Law Society Liu Jinrui, and many other law students and practitioners. This frontier forum is held by associate professor Zhang Jiyu.
Associate professor Zhang Jiyu firstly introduce the main lecturer and other guests, and gave a brief introduction about the topic.
Later, professor Li Kang started his lecture in great applause.
Professor Li Kang told us some cases in Internet security area. Firstly, he made an analysis about Wechat’s statement about not keeping any user’s chat history; later, he focused on the privacy protection method that Internet companies regularly take in operations; then he analyzed some hot spot such as American Internet breakdown and 360 water drop; finally, he brought up some of his questions such as the ownership of content of chat in IM, whether a user’s conduct belongs to user’s privacy, how to balance between protection of technique and supervision on content, the connection of protection of users’ privacy among different websites, and the responsibility of security and protection of privacy of many companies.
After the lecture of professor Li Kang, other guests gave short speeches about his lecture, and put up related questions on the lecture. The guests also had a heated discussion about domestic Cybersecurity Law, hot spot event on internet, and professional internet security question, etc. Professor Li Kang also responded to each question.
At 9 pm or so, this lecture ended in great applause.
