On January 11 to 13, 2019, Dean Wang Yi leads a delegation to visit the school of law of Munich University, Wurzburg University and the Audi company headquarters in Germany, which furthers deepening the cooperation of our law school with two houses in fields of exchange and cooperation, and our academic cooperation with Audi in the field of artificial intelligence and so on. Accompanied by professor Meng Yanbei, associate professor Zhang Jiyu, associate professor Wang Ying, associate professor Ding Xiaodong, associate professor Guo Rui, assistant professor Xiong Bingwan, director of international exchange office Chen Lei, etc.

On the morning of January 11, President Wang Yi and his delegation visited the law school of Munich university. They met with Prof. Thomas Ackermann, dean of the law school of Munich university, Prof. Christian Walter and Prof. Bernd Schunemann, who are in charge of international communication.

Ackermann extended a warm welcome to President Wang Yi,s visit and expressed appreciation for the academic cooperation between the two houses in recent years. He hoped that the two sides can continue to promote cooperation in various aspects. President Wang Yi expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the law school of Munich University and the international exchange office of Munich University in actively promoting academic cooperation with the law school of Renmin University of China and looked forward to further deepening the cooperation between the two sides.

President Wang Yi presented to President Ackermann the research results of the cooperation between the young scholars of the two courts in the past two years: Frontiers of Law in China, Special Issue; Nomas, the German publishing house, has published it simultaneously. He said that the first phase of the joint research program for young scholars of the two houses has achieved fruitful results, and will hold the results conference at Renmin University in the near future. He also looks forward to the early launch of the second phase of the joint research program for young scholars of the two houses. The two sides held preliminary consultations on the research theme of the second phase of the joint research project for young scholars. During the talks, the two sides also assessed the implementation effect of the dual-phd joint training program between the two houses of parliament, and conducted fruitful consultations and reached broad consensus on further optimizing the implementation mechanism of the program.

On the afternoon of January 11th, President Wang Yi and his delegation visited the headquarters of Audi and had a discussion with Mr. Daniel Patnaik, general counsel for product development of Audi, Mr. Martin Siemann, director of legal consulting for autonomous driving, Mr. Thorsten Leonhardt, director of consumer protection for autonomous driving and Mr. Matthias Trecker, legal counsel for autonomous driving.

President Wang Yi briefed Daniel Patnaik and other officials on the law school of Renmin university of China and the Institute of Future Rule of Law. with the rapid development of driverless technology, legal issues related to driverless cars are emerging,, he said. China is busy compiling civil codes and discussing how to respond positively to the new challenges posed by driverless cars. He hopes that through this visit to Audi, he can understand the development status of driverless vehicles and the opinions of automobile manufacturers on driverless vehicles, and hopes to carry out academic cooperation with Audi on driverless vehicles.

Mr. Daniel Patnaik, general counsel of product development of Audi warmly welcomed the delegation from the school of law of Renmin university of China. He briefed the delegation on the history of Audi entering the Chinese market, the importance of the Chinese market to Audi, and Audi's sales target in China in the next five years. Audi has been keeping an eye on the legislative developments in the United States in the field of autonomous driving, and is aware of the high level of interest in autonomous driving technology in China. He hopes that China will have a rational legal framework in the field of autonomous driving in the future. Audi is willing to carry out exchanges and academic cooperation with the law school of Renmin university of China in the field of autonomous driving, so as to provide cutting-edge technical information support for the law school of Renmin university of China. Later, Mr. Thorsten Leonhardt showed the delegation the technological status quo and future development of Audi's autonomous vehicles and elaborated on Audi's understanding of autonomous vehicles. During the discussion, members of the delegation of our institute had a heated discussion with Mr. Daniel Patnaik, Mr. Martin Siemann, Mr. Thorsten Leonhardt, Mr. Matthias Trecker and others on legal issues related to driverless cars.

On January 12, President Wang Yi and his delegation visited the school of law of the University of Wurzburg in Germany and met with professors Olaf Sosnitza and Eric Hilgendorf. The two sides will hold an academic conference on the future cooperation between the Institute of Future Rule of Law and the Robotics Law Research Center of the University of Wuerzburg in the field of digitalization, and carry out exchanges and cooperative research among scholars. It is hoped that the two research institutions will work together to explore the social, ethical and legal impacts of digitalization.
